>Star Wars: Episode II - Anakin - Flipping Deluxe Action Figure
Ten years after the battle to save Naboo from invasion, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi, thousands of solar systems threaten to separate from the Galactic Republic. A brave Jedi knight, his impulsive and headstrong apprentice, and a senator who has become queen are drawn into the heart of the conflict.... and the beginning of the war.
During the battle of Geonosis, Anakin Skywalker confronts the evil Darth Tyranus in a secret hangar. Anakin desperately calls for all the skills he learned during his Jedi training to ward off the Dark Lord's powerful attack.
If there is a perfect example of a character interspersed with gimmicks that could have been a great action figure, we would probably choose Anakin Skywalker (With Force-Flipping Attack) from the Star Wars "Saga" Deluxe line. Let's get it out. The Force Flipping feature on three characters in the Star Wars Saga line is the stupidest thing we've seen so far. We think it's a really bad step from Hasbro to include this magnetic feature in these numbers. But, apart from some things we don't like, the sculptures are pretty fantastic. In the case of Anakin Skywalker (With Force-Flipping Attack) it's probably the best Anakin Skywalker sculpture in the whole line. We qualify this by saying that we don't dig his head sculpture, but from the waist below Hasbro has screen accurate detail and well balanced parts that really shoots this Anakin Skywalker in front of the others. The sad thing is that Anakin Skywalker (With Force-Flipping Attack) between the action-oriented pose and the magnets embedded in the feet of the figure has great difficulty standing without help. That's never a good thing.
You will really notice a marked difference between these Anakin Skywalker figures and those published in other facets of the line. His skin doesn't seem so opaque and the details in his costume simply feel raised, no matter how strange it may seem. The lacquer work also stands out clearly. The brown tones are screen-accurate and his leather coats of arms look like real leather thanks to the excellent lacquering. Again his face looks as if he is clogged. He definitely has a "turd face", but also the shape of his head and the details of his hair and braids will impress you. There is no way around it. Perhaps the biggest setback for Anakin Skywalker (With Force-Flipping Attack) is that his lightsaber is permanently attached to his right hand. We're not sure why Hasbro would do this. The ability to play with this figure regardless of his lightsaber is ideal for collectors of all ages. It is a great disappointment to see that this figure always holds his lightsaber. In addition, the lightsaber is at greater risk of bowing, bending and breaking during storage. You really have to pack it away precariously to avoid damaging the lightsaber.
Hasbro has recorded instructions for successful force flips with this character. They compare this skill to how to get better at the Force and how to train it. We imagine that you didn't expect to get Jedi Force training while playing with a Hasbro action figure, did you? They advise that both heels of the figure be pressed into the recesses of the feet on the launch pad. You also suggest using the lightsaber as a figure balancer and leaning it against the sidewalk. (That is probably the main reason why the lightsaber is not removable.) You also suggest anchoring the rounded base with your fingers near the surface to achieve the best possible balance. And finally, they recommend moving the figure's arms and legs into different positions to find the best and optimal force flipping performance. (This all has to do with finding the figure's best center of gravity.) Again, Anakin Skywalker (With Force-Flipping Attack) is aimed at the kids. We think they'll be frustrated when they try to make the gimmick work, but maybe they'll use the character for other purposes instead.
Egal how you feel about this set, it certainly has a fair RRP of $9.99.
